If you're considering joining us as a nurse at Smooth, we want to give you a clear and transparent picture of what the role looks like day-to-day before we connect. No surprises — just straight talk.
As a Smooth nurse, you own the full client experience from the moment they walk through the door to the moment they leave. Our clients check in on an iPad at the front and take a seat, and when you're ready, you head out to the waiting room to bring them back. Before your shift even begins, you'll have already reviewed all client intake forms so you're fully prepared and can hit the ground running.
From there, you walk each client through pre-treatment questions, get them changed and comfortable, perform their laser treatment, provide aftercare instructions, process their payment, and schedule their next appointment. Payment is quick and easy — we don't accept cash, so it's just a simple tap on the card processor.
Our shifts are 6 hours long and move fast. You can expect to see between 8 and 15 clients per shift, so back-to-back appointments are the norm — which is exactly why we keep shifts to 6 hours. We respect your time and energy. You'll always have the opportunity to use the bathroom and grab water, but outside of that, expect a full and busy shift. If you thrive in an active, client-facing environment and love being in your flow, you'll feel right at home here.
We set every nurse up for success with a structured training program before you ever see a client on your own. Here's how it works:
Online course and written assessment — You'll start by completing a self-paced online training course followed by a written assessment to ensure you have a strong foundation before stepping into the clinic.
Shadow days — You'll spend two days observing experienced nurses in action, with some minimal hands-on practice to start getting comfortable with the process.
Hands-on practice day — A dedicated day focused entirely on building your technique and confidence.
MD qualification — You'll complete a qualification session with our Medical Director at our Fairfax, VA location before treating clients independently.
Reverse shadow shifts — For your first two shifts seeing clients, a fellow nurse will be present as backup. You're in the driver's seat, but you're never on your own until you're fully ready.
Starting pay is $40/hour. After 6 months and 50 worked shifts, you become eligible for a raise to $44/hour. On top of your hourly rate, our nurses consistently earn tips that average $10–$12 per hour — making your real earning potential well above your base rate.
